I just got an email from a friend the following letter actually (names have been deleted to protect the innocent by replacing it by XXX)

The following is an actual letter.

From: Hector Torres
Subject: Hello XXX
To: XXX
Date: Thursday, XXX, 10:26 AM

Dear XXX,

I am Sgt Hector Torres, the 13th Sergeant Major for Combined Joint Task
Force 7 serving in Baghdad, Iraq. (USF-I) I am on assignment here in Iraq
and have some items I will need to ship to you for safe keep.

Please you could check this site so you could understand what I am trying to
say:

Contact me immediately if you can assist, as I will only highlight more on
this transaction if you meet my conditions. Please signify your interest by

First what makes this look enticing and real?

1 Promise of money. People get excited and the lour of the money. Remember nothing is freely given there is a catch to anything in life. If it’s too good to be true probably it is.

2 It’s a true story it’s form the BBC must be true right? Well wrong the BBC story is true but not the rest of the email.

3 Name on the email states “Sgt Hector Torres” sounds like an official name, huh?

Ok don’t be fooled. The name sound real but the email is fake.

What to look out for and what got me to figure out it’s a fraud

1 Look at the email it’s coming from. It’s “hectortorres@blumail.org”

If it was a from a Government account the email would end with xxxx.gov or from the military would end with xxx.mil (don’t be fooled by xxx.gov.com this ends with com not government account still fake)

2 If this was a person who would give you money, seriously would the initial contact be via email? They would call wouldn’t they or get a lawyer or write a letter. Email are sent out like millions literally at what cost ‘O Cents‘ someone just sits there with a program and sends out millions and one fool comes back and sends them money. If it was done in a mailing each would cost a postage stamp and who would sent out a million stamps nobody. It will cost too much; Or make a phone call to that many people nobody. It would cost too much and take too much time. Emailing millions of people like fishing in a lake is much easier.

3 Look at the email it is coming from hectortorres@blumail.org did you notice the bold emal blumail.org it’s from a web site visit it. They set up a free email account form here. Such as a free email from Google Mail or Yahoo Mail or Hot Mail free email service. This service bluemail.org does not know what is going on. Someone just set up a free email account on their service and is spamming out email and phishing out people.

Resources on the Internet

Where can you go to find out if it’s fake? Look at Snopes a good resource for internet fraud there are many just search for “Internet Fraud” in your search engines to find out more. The FBI has some resource online to read about.

What you can do?

What did I do? I visited bluworld.org web siteand emailed them and told them someone is using their system for fraud. Hopefully they will close that account. If it’s real bad contact the local FBI or police.

Looking for a job? Where are the places to post your resume?

In the age of the Internet what are the methods of getting noticed and getting a job? There are a few quick and easy ways to get noticed

A. Register your self on a few of the main job search engines

The following are good for tech, engineering and a host of other jobs

If you are in a niche of specialty market do a quick search and find the job finding site and register there. For example if you are a teacher a quick search for “teaching jobs” brought up SchoolSpring.com which specializing for teaching if you are in any other market just do a quick search on google.com or find a nice directory at careers.yahoo.com.

The trick with these resume sites if to go and update or just touch the resume every so often this way your resume looks fresh and may even appear on top of the list when the recruiters are searching for your skill.

B. Search for jobs in job boards.

Such as CraigsList there is a column specific to jobs there are many more. With these sites just be aware that some people phishing for email and information so posting some may use to spam email box. So you may want to consider setting up a email box on GMail or Yahoo Mail just for jobs search this way your personal email does not get spammed and also you just have place to job emails.

C. Get registered with Job Networking sites

Such as LinkedIn.com. There are many benefits.

You can freely put your resume online and your network of family, friends, coworkers etc and friends of friends can see your resume
Recruiters can find you
You can join groups in LinkedIn and find other people in your area as network and people can find you.

D. Network – It’s who you know sometimes not what you know

Networking is one of the best ways of finding a job. One way is to get out there and meet other people who are in your area and when they meet you and get to know you and when the opportunities arise they may contact you. A great network way is Meetup search for your area and get out there.

E. Make a blog, profile and/or Site

Make a site like this make a blog and put your resume online. I did it just like this. What you are reading here is my blog RonSattar.com and if you read the header my resume is here. The cost is very minimal you can do it yourself using SattarHosting and click on WEB HOSTING and set up a WORDPRESS HOSTING. Cost is about $75 / year to have your own site (which includes hosting and domain name)

Set up a google profile like I have one at Google Profile.

F. Volunteer

You will be surprised on how much jobs can get out there when you just volunteer and get out there. There are people use have a job and also volunteer and you can network with them.

G. Training

Get training for a new job. There are many places online to train for a new job. Community College are a good option

Online classes include Lynda.com for technical, graphic and design training online

H. Get busy do it on your own

Do you have a skill that someone may want to pay for? Like what?

If you have a degree in any thing consider Tutoring (post your tutoring service on CraigsList.org) know a language consider becoming a translator at TranslatorsCafe.com. Maybe consider cleaning peoples homes, or personal organizer, talk walker, each of these jobs can be marketed on CraigsList.org a simple web site at SattarHosting or email me for more ideas. If you are really adventurous try RentAFriend.com. Rent yourself out. No not like that people really need a friend sometimes. Temporary in town and need some errands or need someone to show them around town very professional.

I. If you really know where you want to work

Hey if you really know where you want to work. Go to the companies web site and post your resume. For example Google Jobs, AOL Jobs, Groupon Jobs and… oh nevermind do it yourself go to Google and just type “Jobs at ” and a series of suggestions will appear or just type “Jobs at COMPANY NAME” and it will take you directly there and post your resume.

J. Leave your comfort zone

Consider getting a job outside your are get a recruiter to find a job in another state, small town or your skills maybe transferable to another career. Speak to a job specialist find out.

Ever get a call from an 800 or 877 and wonder who’s calling you? Only to pick it up or get a voice message from a telemarketer? Waste of time.

There are several web sites that let’s you fine out who they are such as http://whocallsme.com/ and http://800notes.com/ that you can enter the number and read the comments of who the company or person is that is calling you. Great feature and do you know what I personally either:

1 Put these numbers in my block list in my cell phone

2 Add their names in my ring tone NOT to ring and I don’t get annoyed by them

Couch Surfing

I joined this group last year, from a friend, who told me about it. It is a great way meet world travelers. If you travel and don’t like to save some money on lodging and like to meet local person there who has open their place usually a couch to stay or if you have a place ‘A Couch’ and open to the idea of letting someone stay at your place this is the organization for you.

Addis Abeba Ehiopian Cuisine

Years ago I went to this restaurant, which was close to Cubs Park on Addison and Clark in Chicago. I went there once with some friends and my sister. She hated it. The reason I recall was that there did not allow any utensils.

No Utensils

Yip no forks, spoons nor knifes. Just bread and the food. One just takes some bread wraps it around the meal and eats it. I thought it was great. I loved this restaurant and hoped to come back to it.

After a while it closed up or moved and I did not recall the name of it and thought I had lost it forever. This is the image that was always stuck in my mind.

Just recently, I was driving and found this Ethiopian Restaurant up in Evanston. I was so very happy after all these years my long lost favorite non utensil food restaurant. I had found it.

Violeta says as we were driving she found but I insist I found it first. She found the yellow awning but I found that it was my old favorite restaurant.

Well we took photos as we were leaving of our trip there. She took one of me and me of her. There were nobody around and we both wanted to be in the photo. So I said later, I would photoshop it together. So I did.

So if you ever hear someone say I will Photoshop you in or out later this is what it means.

Doe Deer (video samsung) and good to ask

I saw a doe deer while driving on the side street

I was quite happy and please to see a deer in the small past of forest while driving I took out my video. See the deer in the forest it just looks up and pauses and goes back in eating something on the ground

The quality of the camera isn’t that good but just the sense that I saw it was pretty cool. Most people don’t know that in Chicago there lies a patch work of forests that intertwine with the highway and streets. There are deers and birds and many other animals. The river in it’s path and houses just on the side of people living there. These forests go far beyond the city up to the burbs of chicago beyond.

After I took the video I remember to go to Jewel to redeem my coupons for some free pots and pans. As I went there I was short a few coupons stickers for the free pan. I picked up a few items to purchase and went and stood in line.

There was a older lady and she offered me to go in front of her and said “Thank you and I am also here to get few more coupon sticker to get the free pan’ She said ‘Oh I get them for free my son. He works for a company’ I replied ‘Oh you are so lucky…’

I said out loud, ‘I wonder how can I redeem my sticker’ and she said she was not sure… I asked a person who worked who had just passed by there and he said just pick up the a pan and to redeem it in the line. I said ok cool. I got out of line and thanked nice older lady again and left.

I went and saw a few options and thought. I can get one pan for free or if I just had a few more coupon points I can get two for a few dollars that I could chip in. I went and took just one and thought I’d save to get the 2nd one later even thought there was only a few more days before the sale would be going on. I had hope.

I went back in line but by that time the nice older lady was out in the check out and about to leave. She turned around and said ‘Son do you want my coupons stickers?’ I said OMG sure and just like in high school she gave it to the person behind her and her to her and back to me I delightfully put it in my coupon book and was 5 short. I was like whoah. Nice to be nice to some people.

I went to the check out and noticed a box full of the coupons and was like hey nobody is here and was so tempted to get them. I joked to the cashier that returned hey if I took a few you would not have noticed. I was so tempted. I asked ‘Hey can you give me a few? I am just short. She laughed and said No. I said curiously doesn’t any of the customer not use the and return them or something. She said well yet there are a few in the bottom of the box. I looked and hey found a few more and put them on my book and was I was now only one short.

I bought what I needed to buy and guess what the one extra sticker and got both of my pans that I wanted.

Sometimes it just nice to some people and be inquisitive and ask.

AIM, GTalk, MSN, Meebo, and Skype are all all example of Instant Messaging programs

Meebo can unified AIM, GTalk, MSN together all in one place and is web based, meaning it works from your browser NO Installation is required. So if you are at a friends computer or library you can access Meebo and all of your Instant message programs.
